Jesus before Pilate again / Barabbas
Friday, AD 30 (morning) · Jerusalem
Pilate offers to release Jesus or Barabbas. The crowd chooses Barabbas. Jesus is sentenced to be crucified.
Matthew 27:15-26
Pilate offers Barabbas or Jesus. The crowd demands Jesus be crucified. Pilate delivers Him to be crucified.
Mark 15:6-15
Pilate finds no guilt but the crowd insists. He releases Barabbas and delivers Jesus to their will.
Luke 23:13-25
Pilate tries to release Jesus. The crowd cries for crucifixion. Pilate hands Him over.

The soldiers mock Jesus
Friday, AD 30 · Jerusalem (Praetorium)
The soldiers put a scarlet robe and crown of thorns on Jesus and mock Him as King of the Jews.

The soldiers clothe Jesus in purple, put a crown of thorns on Him, and mock Him.

Pilate has Jesus flogged. The soldiers put a crown of thorns and a purple robe on Him.

The crucifixion of Jesus

Jesus is led to Golgotha and crucified between two robbers. He is mocked.
Matthew 27:32-44
Jesus is crucified at the third hour. The inscription reads “The King of the Jews.”
Mark 15:21-32
Jesus is led to the Place of the Skull. He is crucified between two criminals and prays for His enemies.
Luke 23:26-43
Jesus carries His cross (helped by Simon). He is crucified. The title is written. He gives His mother to John.

The death of Jesus
Friday, AD 30 (about 3 p.m.) · Golgotha
Darkness covers the land. Jesus cries out and dies. The curtain of the temple is torn.
Matthew 27:45-56
Darkness falls. Jesus cries out with a loud voice and breathes His last. The centurion confesses.
Mark 15:33-41
Darkness comes over the whole land. Jesus commits His spirit to the Father and dies.
Luke 23:44-49
Jesus says “I thirst” and “It is finished.” He bows His head and gives up His spirit. His side is pierced.

The burial of Jesus

Joseph of Arimathea asks for Jesus’ body and lays it in his own new tomb. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary watch.
Matthew 27:57-61
Joseph of Arimathea takes the body, wraps it in a linen shroud, and lays it in a tomb. The women see where He is laid.
Mark 15:42-47
Joseph takes the body, wraps it in linen, and lays it in a rock-hewn tomb. The women prepare spices.
Luke 23:50-56
Joseph and Nicodemus take the body, bind it with spices in linen cloths, and lay it in a new tomb.

The chief priests and Pharisees ask Pilate for a guard. The tomb is sealed and a guard is set.

The women find the tomb empty. An angel announces Jesus is risen. Jesus appears to the women.

The women find the stone rolled away. Two men in dazzling apparel say He is risen. Peter runs to the tomb.
